The presidential candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party(ANPP) Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has assured women of key positions in his administration, if elected next month.<\/span><\/p>\n

He spoke when he received an award for his contribution to women emancipation in Abuja. It was at a dinner organised by the Global Women and Youth Empowerment Strategy. The award was in collaboration with the National Group of ANPP.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shekarau promised that “if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria, women will occupy central positions in my administration.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Pledging that he was not making empty promises, he said: “We have done it in Kano State,we have promoted the well-being of women, and we have granted women wider opportunities to education. From 2003 on the day of my swearing in, I made it clear that female education will be free and it has been totally free. “We have done a lot of women empowerment and support programmes, and if we did it at the state level, certainly, we can replicate it at the national level”. He added: “With your support, cooperation and understanding, we can sustain the promotion of women because we believe that if we support women to develop and be self-reliant, we are automatically developing the nation.”<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
