PORT HARCOURT-\u00a0 TEACHERS of Baptist Medical Centre, Eku in Delta State have appealed to the state government to go ahead with\u00a0 its decision to take over the school.<\/p>\n

It will be recalled that the state government took over the Eku Baptist Hospital\u00a0 in 2009.\u00a0 Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, after the takeover, directed that the staff of the hospital be transferred to the state civil service.<\/p>\n

The teachers were subsequently issued letters of absorption by the state Hospital Management Board in line with the government directive.<\/p>\n

There was, however,\u00a0 a\u00a0 twist in the development, when some persons allegedly called on the state government\u00a0 not to take over the primary and secondary schools and that they should be run by the community.<\/p>\n

When contacted, yesterday,\u00a0 the president general Eku Progress Union, an umbrella body of the community, Chief Blessing Ohvwavborua enjoined the\u00a0 state government to disregard those urging it to leave the school for the community.<\/p>\n
