England captain.

The Chelsea defender was stripped of the captaincy 13 months ago after allegations about his private life but Capello is handing him the armband once again for England’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales on Saturday.

And the big striker was eager to quash rumours of any unrest in the dressing room about the decision.

“There are no problems with anyone, I am pleased for John Terry, it was not a concern,” Crouch told reporters.

“There was a lot of talk about there being unrest but that was not the issue at all, he has been a fantastic player. He has led Chelsea to doubles and he has been there and done it.

“He tries to bring out the best in the players around him, he is a great leader on the pitch, and I am sure he will be again for England.”

The Spurs striker also sympathised with Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, whose injury woes have contributed to him being stripped of the armband.

“It is a real shame for Rio,” Crouch added.

“With the injuries he has had and him not being here has obviously been a factor as to why the manager decided to change things around with the armband.”

Crouch also lavished praise on Liverpool striker Andy Carroll, who he is in direct competition for a place in the starting line-up on Saturday, and admitted that he will be trying his hardest to make sure Capello will select him.

“With the players we have upfront it is healthy for England, it is good for the squad,” Crouch continued.

“We will both be trying as hard as we can so that we get a shirt.

“I am pleased for Andy Carroll, he has done fantastically well and is at a top club and he will go on and be a real success there.”

Gareth Bale is almost certain to start against England on Saturday and Tottenham team-mate Crouch has revealed that he is the man to watch out for.

He said: “It is no secret he has improved so much over the last few years.

“He has become a world-class player and he is doing it against the best players in the world in the Champions League, and he is a player we will have to look out for but of course they have other threats.”
