USA coach Bob Bradley is confident Stuart Holden will be able to return to his best after his latest injury setback.

Holden has been ruled out for six months after the Bolton Wanderers midfielder suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

The injury was caused by a lunging challenge from Jonny Evans, although Holden has absolved the United defender of any blame.

However, the injury still means Holden will miss Bolton’s FA Cup semi-final against Stoke City and also the USA’s Gold Cup campaign in the summer.

The 25-year-old recovered from lengthy absences earlier in his career and his national team coach Bradley has offered his support.

Mentality

Bradley said: “We all feel really bad for Stuart because obviously he got injured last year when we played Holland.

“Now he’s had an excellent season at Bolton and is a player we see as being an important part of our team.

“We were looking forward to having him with us at 100% and confident.

“This is a setback but he’s shown in the past the mentality to fight through these things. He knows we’re all behind him.”
