{"id":328783,"date":"2011-03-22T10:20:27","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T10:20:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/22\/nursing-students-asked-to-withdraw\/"},"modified":"2011-03-22T10:20:27","modified_gmt":"2011-03-22T10:20:27","slug":"nursing-students-asked-to-withdraw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/22\/nursing-students-asked-to-withdraw\/","title":{"rendered":"Nursing Students Asked To Withdraw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div>Nursing students in the various Nursing and midwifery Training institutions who gained admission into their respective schools after re-sitting\/re-writing their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for more than three consecutive times have been asked to withdraw.<\/p>\n<p>Information reaching the Public Agenda newspaper indicate that the nursing and Midwifery Council early this year directed all principals of the training institutions to send home affected students.<br \/>Obviously, Ghanaian students who have ambitions to pursue nursing and midwifery courses but are not able to pass the SSSCE or WASSCE at the first sitting will have their hopes dashed.<\/p>\n<p>The news has not gone down well with majority of the students, their parents and even some of the principals. They argued that the guidelines for admission did not state anything of the sort.<br \/>Our checks proved that the entry requirements prescribe that students must have passes in three core subjects \u2013 English, mathematics, Science \u2013 and three electives subjects of their choice.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the principals have not acted on the order. They raised the issue at a conference in February this year at Ho in the Volta Region attended by members of the Council, representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service.
