Spokesperson Dela Coffie told Citi News a few persons around President Mills are engineering the action against Mrs. Rawlings, who is one of the Vice Chairpersons of the party.

“Our intelligence has revealed that the reason why Mrs. Rawlings was not invited was because it was an occasion where party people will be told again to go out and malign the woman because she is in a good position to wrestle power from President Mills and lead the party. “Somebody like Mr. Ato Ahwoi who is not an executive member was part of that meeting at Peduase. So the question is what exactly went on there?” he asked.

Mr. Coffie says the NDC’s structures were no more functional.

“NDC party structures are no longer working. For the past one month, the party has never held the normal Functional Executive Committee meetings that have been going on every Tuesday at the party headquarters. A few people make a decision at people’s houses and send text messages to people to tell them that this is what we have arrived at. That is not the NDC we all fought for. It is President Mills’ leadership that has created all this mess” he alleged.

Mrs. Rawlings was not the only party executive missing at the meeting, held at the Peduase Presidential Lodge on Friday March 18 .

Deputy General Secretary Kofi Adams, who is also a Spokesperson for the former First Family was also not present at the meeting. Joshua Akamba, the Party’s Deputy National Organiser, has also told Citi News he was not informed about the meeting.

Our checks show Party Chairman Kwabena Adjei, General Secretary Asiedu Nketiah and Alhaji Huudu Yahaya, a Vice Chairperson, were also absent. But the NDC’s Propaganda Secretary has denied the claims that the party had a hidden agenda against Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and her followers.

He explained that the meeting was for Regional Ministers and Regional party chairmen ahead of President Mills’ tour of the country to acquaint himself with how things were running. He said although national executives were told to participate in the meeting, it was later communicated to them through text messages not to turn up so it does not appear as if it was a NEC Meeting.

According to Mr. Quashigah, some executives did not receive their text messages and eventually turned up for the meeting. “People are misconstruing the issue. It was not a NEC meeting and it was not a meeting intended to discuss the issues that are being raised” he emphasized.

In a related development, the political group Friends of Atta Mills has officially inaugurated a campaign supporting the re-election of President Mills as flagbearer of the NDC for the 2012 presidential elections.

The leaders of the group say it has become necessary to project President Mills as the best candidate for the NDC in 2012 because of his performance since assuming the presidency two years ago.

Although the group has not had recent discussions with President Mills, seeking his consent for such a campaign, its leaders say the President’s pronouncements on some political platforms indicate that he intends standing for re-election.

A former Ashanti Regional campaign chairman of Professor Mills and national coordinator of the group, Dominic Anoma, told Citi News although the president has not publicly declared his stance, his words and actions show he is nursing plans to seek the mandate of Ghanaians again in 2012. “I quite remember at Tamale, immediately after our congress (in January 2010), he declared that he was going to contest 2012. “We as a group intend to advise the NDC as a party and the delegates thereof to be very careful and cautious about who they choose to lead the party in 2012.

“And this is what we have taken upon ourselves. We visit the individuals, the groups and even the executives (and explain to them the consequences of their choice).”

View original post here:

A group canvassing support for former first lady Nana Konadu Rawlings to vie for the NDC flagbearership for the 2012 election claims a recent meeting convened by the President with some executives of the party was to plot against Mrs. Rawlings’s presidential ambition.
