{"id":327045,"date":"2011-03-21T14:53:15","date_gmt":"2011-03-21T14:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/21\/no-food-for-iviorian-refugees\/"},"modified":"2011-03-21T14:53:15","modified_gmt":"2011-03-21T14:53:15","slug":"no-food-for-iviorian-refugees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/21\/no-food-for-iviorian-refugees\/","title":{"rendered":"No food for Iviorian refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div>\n<!-- Prova Advanced Social Bookmarker Plugin version 2.2 http:\/\/prova.com --> <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caption\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/3303562e020x20279.jpg.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Interior Minister Joseph Yielleh Chireh\" title=\"Interior Minister Joseph Yielleh Chireh\" align=\"left\" \/>Ivorian refugees being kept at the Apeye refugee camp in the Western Region do not have food to eat.<br \/>The over 1,600 have reportedly been refused food by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). <\/p>\n<p>The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has now taken up the burden to feed the refugees who have fled the political crisis in their country.<\/p>\n<p>Adom News\u2019 checks with the FAO revealed that the FAO can only step in to help only if the number is above 5,000 but the current figure of a little over 1,600, is way below the point where the FAO can come in to support with feeding.<\/p>\n<p>The Ghana Refugee Board had earlier state that the refugees being fed well and have been provided a decent temporary accommodation.<\/p>\n<p>Adom News\u2019 Western Regional Correspondent Okyeame Amoako Darkwah who visited the Ampeye reported to the contrary.<br \/>He said some Ivoirians who have registered as refugees have resorted to staying in hotels and paying for their own accommodation since the refugee camp at Ampeye is sited in a low-lying area which could suffer floods as the rains set in.<\/p>\n<p>The Regional Chairman of the Ghana Refugee Board, Paddy Tetteh said the figure over the last two weeks continue to rise due to escalation of the crisis in Ivory coast.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince children and women are the most affected in times of war, they have dominated the refugee figure we have recorded so far at the Ampeye camp\u201d, Mr. Tetteh told Adom News.<\/p>\n<p>Political instability in Ivory Coast is still raging since the disputed elections last year which saw Alhassan Ouatarra as the internationally acclaimed winner but incumbent Laurent Gbagbo has refused to cede power.<\/p>\n<p>Akuamoah Boateng\/Adom News<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div readability=\"7\">\n<hr \/>\n<p>Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites<!-- AddThis Button BEGIN -->\n                    <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/3303562e020x20279.jpg-150x150.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>See original here: <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Ivorian refugees being kept at the Apeye refugee camp in the Western Region do not have food to eat.
