{"id":326922,"date":"2011-03-21T15:04:48","date_gmt":"2011-03-21T15:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/21\/zimbabwe-dembare-gets-world-ranking\/"},"modified":"2011-03-21T15:04:48","modified_gmt":"2011-03-21T15:04:48","slug":"zimbabwe-dembare-gets-world-ranking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/21\/zimbabwe-dembare-gets-world-ranking\/","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe: Dembare Gets World Ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"86.9087430649\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/><!-- close google_banner_mid div ---><\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestandard.co.zw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/b51f4db9standard180.jpg\" alt=\"Zimbabwe Standard (Harare)\" title=\"Visit Zimbabwe Standard (Harare)\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p><!-- begin story layout piece here --><\/p>\n<p>Fanuel Viviri<\/p>\n<p>21 March 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>THE International Federation of Football History &#038; Statistics (IFFHS) has ranked Dynamos the 10th best team in Africa and 155 on the world club rankings as the Glamour Boys troops out for the African Champions League match at Rufaro today.<\/p>\n<p>DeMbare, who had a bye in the preliminary round, could improve on their rankings, if they manage to crack Algeria&#8217;s Moloudia Club Alger in the first round.<\/p>\n<p><!-- close google_inset_a div ---><\/p>\n<p>The world club rankings released this week by the Germany-based IFFHS shows that DeMbare is ranked the 10th best team on the continent after garnering 97 points.<\/p>\n<p>The number one team in Africa is Egpyt&#8217;s Al Ahly (143 points) followed by reigning Champions League champions TP Mazembe (131) and Tunisia&#8217;s Esperance (125) and Edward Sadomba&#8217;s Al Hilal (124) from Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>The world club rankings are based solely on points garnered in competitions organised by continental confederation recognised by Fifa such as the CAF Champions League, UEFA Champions League and Concacaf Champions League among other tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>However, clubs that participate in the UEFA Champions League teams garner more points for a win unlike the African teams that participate in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.<\/p>\n<p><!-- close google_inset_b div ---><\/p>\n<p>The world club rankings are led by Italy&#8217;s Inter Milan (304.0 points) as the number 1 team followed by FC Barcelona (301.0) and Real Madrid (261.0). The only English clubs that have a higher ranking is Manchester United (233.0 points) at position six and Liverpool (228.0) at position eight. Chelsea (218.0) sits on position 10 in the top 400 club global rankings.<\/p>\n<p>DeMbare have made tremendous strides in the Champions League, which saw the IFFHS stand up and take notice of the club as a stronger football club than all the mega-rich teams of South African Premiership and all the clubs in Angola, Zambia, Mozambique, Ghana, Senegal and Morrocco.<\/p>\n<p><!-- close google_inset_c div ---><\/p>\n<p>The rankings, which place Dynamos as the 10th best team, were collated from results between March 1 2010 and February 28 2011. The club managed to reach the group stages last year. Dynamos are jointly in position 155 with Mexico&#8217;s Deportivo Guadalajara and Bolivia&#8217;s Oriente Petrolero Santa Cruz. The clubs have each raked 97.0 points<\/p>\n<p>Farai Munetsi, the Dynamos chairman said the club was excited with the ranking and the club was now aiming for a top five position in Africa in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a legacy which was built over the last 47years,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The ranking is befitting as the we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2013. Our ambition is to be among the top five clubs in Africa by 2013. We salute all our former players such as George Shaya, Moses Chunga and Elvis Chiweshe for building this legacy. We hope the current squad will continue with the good performance,&#8221; Munetsi said.<\/p>\n<p>Munetsi said however there was need for the club to work on the &#8220;commercial side&#8221; of the club and be able to own a stadium, among other success.<\/p>\n<p>The IFFHS is an organisation recognised by FIFA that chronicles the history and records of association football that was founded on March 27 1984 in Leipzig (Germany) by Dr. Alfredo P\u00c3\u00b6ge.<\/p>\n<p>The Confederation of African Football (CAF) ranked Dynamos ninth best club on the continent in December last year.
