LOS ANGELES (AP)\u2014Derek Fisher<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> sticks to the background most nights for the
\nLos Angeles Lakers<\/a>, contributing a few assists and an occasional 3-pointer while
\nhis high-profile teammates get all the attention.<\/p>\n

Every once in a while, the old D-Fish comes out to remind the Lakers\u2019
\npotential playoff opponents there\u2019s a world-class closer lurking back there
\nbehind Kobe Bryant<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> and Pau Gasol<\/a>(notes)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fisher spearheaded a late comeback with big back-to-back defensive plays to
\nput the Lakers ahead, followed by the clinching jumper with 10 seconds left in
\nLos Angeles\u2019 12th win in 13 games since the All-Star break, 84-80 over the
\nPortland Trail Blazers<\/a> on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do relish the opportunity to help us win from time to time, whether it\u2019s
\nthe first quarter or the fourth,\u201d the five-time NBA champion guard said with
\ntwo big wraps around his knees and both feet in a bucket of ice. \u201cExperience
\ndoes create a lot of situations where it allows you to think clearly under
\npressure in big-time situations. It\u2019s like riding a bike.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryant scored 10 of his 22 points in a dynamic fourth quarter for the
\nLakers, who won their first game without suspended center Andrew Bynum<\/a>(notes)<\/a>.<\/span> Fisher
\nhad early foul trouble and scored just eight points, but he took over late.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe makes big shots all the time,\u201d Bryant said of Fisher. \u201cHe didn\u2019t have
\na good game (statistically) because he was in foul trouble, (but) his stroke was
\nthere, and he\u2019s shooting the ball well. He makes big plays.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moments after feeding Bryant for a tying dunk, Fisher\u2019s steal and layup with
\n1:56 to play gave Los Angeles its first lead since the first half. His icy-cool
\n17-footer wrapped up the Lakers\u2019 remarkable rally.<\/p>\n

\u201cD-Fish came through,\u201d said Lamar Odom<\/a>(notes)<\/a>,<\/span> who had 16 points and 11 rebounds
\nwhile starting in Bynum\u2019s place. \u201cWe could have easily lost this game, but I
\nthought we got better. We made some steps as a team. We showed we can win these
\ngames, but we don\u2019t need to put ourselves in that position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although their last two wins haven\u2019t exactly been works of art, the Lakers
\nformally clinched a playoff berth earlier Sunday when the Utah Jazz<\/a> lost to
\nHouston. The win also wrapped up their fourth consecutive Pacific Division title
\nand 50-victory season.<\/p>\n

Bryant thrived again despite his sprained ankle and sore jaw, highlighting
\nhis night with a picture-perfect fallaway jumper with 32 seconds to play. Gasol
\nadded 14 points and 13 rebounds while taking on more work in the absence of
\nBynum, who was suspended two games by the NBA on Sunday for his flagrant foul on
\nMinnesota\u2019s Michael Beasley<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> two days earlier.<\/p>\n

Nicolas Batum<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> scored 22 of his 25 points in the first three quarters for the
\nBlazers, whose three-game winning streak ended with a fourth-quarter flop,
\nscoring just 14 points on 5-for-18 shooting.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce again, we have control of a game, and we don\u2019t execute down the
\nstretch, and they tighten up their defense,\u201d Portland coach Nate McMillan said.
\n\u201cWe have a few turnovers and miss some shots. We had an opportunity. The things
\nwe\u2019ve been doing well, we didn\u2019t do them.\u201d<\/p>\n

LaMarcus Aldridge<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> scored 18 points, and Marcus Camby<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> grabbed 10 rebounds
\nbefore hobbling off the court with an injured ankle in the final minutes. He\u2019ll
\nhave X-rays on Monday.<\/p>\n

In Bynum\u2019s absence, Portland outrebounded the Lakers 45-35\u2014grabbing 17
\noffensive boards\u2014and nursed a steady lead throughout the second half after
\nmaking a 15-0 run spanning halftime, holding the Lakers without a field goal for
\n6 1\/2 minutes.<\/p>\n

But Bryant\u2019s acrobatic layup pulled Los Angeles to 74-72, and Bryant dunked
\nafter a turnover and a pass from Fisher to even it at 76 with 2:20 to play.<\/p>\n

After Fisher\u2019s layup and a jumper by Bryant with 1:11 left put the Lakers up
\nby four points, Ron Artest<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> got a technical foul from referee Dan Crawford after
\nexchanging shoves down low with Gerald Wallace<\/a>(notes)<\/a>.<\/span> Bryant and Fisher calmly replied
\nwith late jumpers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe only reason they scored at the end was off our turnovers, really,\u201d
\nsaid Andre Miller<\/a>(notes)<\/a>,<\/span> who scored seven points on 3-of-14 shooting. \u201cWe had control
\nof the game, but we didn\u2019t keep on top of it. Every loss is big right now, but
\nwe move on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bryant showed no ill effects early from his sprained ankle and a sore jaw
\nresulting from a head-to-head collision with Minnesota\u2019s Martell Webster<\/a>(notes)<\/a>.<\/span> The
\nAll-Star game MVP scored 10 points in the first half, but the Lakers missed
\nBynum\u2019s defensive presence and even his scoring in the first half, getting just
\neight points apiece from Gasol and Odom.<\/p>\n

Portland took its first lead on Aldridge\u2019s layup 53 seconds before halftime.
\nBatum went 8 for 10 for 19 points in the first half, hitting a 3-pointer in the
\nfinal minute to stake the Blazers to a 48-44 lead.<\/p>\n

Matt Barnes<\/a>(notes)<\/a><\/span> banked in a 3-pointer from a step inside the half-court line at
\nthe third-quarter buzzer, trimming the Blazers\u2019 lead to 66-62.<\/p>\n
