OSOGBO\u00a0– Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has reversed all the public pronouncements and appointments by the Oyo State Governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala,\u00a0 made as regard the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomosho, describing them as illegal.<\/p>\n

Specifically, Aregbesola declared the recent appointment of a Vice chancellor and Registrar for the institution and the increment in tuition fees of students of the university by about 150 percent by Governor Alao Akala as null and void.<\/p>\n

The governor blamed the lingering crisis in the institution on his Oyo State counterpart, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, for taking unilateral decisions over the university, declaring that the university remains a joint property of both Oyo and Osun states.<\/p>\n

Mr. Aregbesola who announced a reduction in the\u00a0 school fees paid\u00a0 by the students, called on the management to reverse the fees to the old rate with immediate effect as the increment announced by Akala was illegal and of no effect.<\/p>\n

In his speech titled \u201cThis Executive Lawlessness must Stop\u201d, the Governor stressed that the Oyo State Governor had conducted himself in illegal ways through the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor and Registrar for the university without his approval, being a co-visitor to the university.<\/p>\n

Aregbesola who said he was disturbed by the abuse of constitution by Akala, noted that the ownership of the university remains 50\/50 between Oyo and Osun states until the Supreme court and the National Universities Commission, NUC,\u00a0 decide otherwise.<\/p>\n

He stressed that the Osun state government had fulfilled all its financial obligations to the university as it had paid its counterpart fund from July 2010 to December 2010, stating that \u201cit is the turn of Oyo state government to fulfill its own part running from January 2011 to June 2011.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe dissociate totally from all unilateral decisions taking by Alao-Akala, as no single state can unilaterally increase school fees in LAUTECH. It is the joint property of the two states as set up in the laws that established the institution. The actions of Akala are outrageous, insensitive and illegal and we shall not relent until justice is done.\u201d<\/p>\n
