Everton manager David Moyes insists it is a ‘complete untruth’ that a deal has already been agreed to sell midfielder Jack Rodwell to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old has long been linked with a multi-million transfer to Old Trafford, and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is also thought to be an admirer.

It has been suggested that cash-strapped Everton have again agreed to do business with United, having sold Wayne Rooney to Sir Alex Ferguson’s club in 2004.

England Under 21 international Rodwell has not been a regular in Moyes’ team this season, but the Goodison Park boss is adamant that he is not set to sell.

Ahead of Saturday evening’s home Premier League game against Fulham, Moyes said: “I don’t know where all the talk has come from of a deal being done with Manchester United because that is a load of rubbish, a complete untruth.

Responsibility

“It is definitely not the case so if anyone wants to come in and disprove me they should do so.

“Stop telling people the wrong things in the media. The media have a responsibility to tell people the facts.

“There has been no contact and we want to keep him at the club for a long time and I have no reason to suggest anything else.

“We have let two players go in my time in Wayne Rooney (to United) and Joleon Lescott (to Manchester City) who I couldn’t keep hold of.

“Steven Pienaar (transferred to Tottenham in January) was coming out of contract and we got an offer, otherwise we wouldn’t have let him go.

“All the other ones in the time I have been here we have felt it was the right time for them to go. We will only let people go if we think it is the right thing to do.”
