Harry Redknapp is relishing the Champions League quarter-finals even though Tottenham have been drawn against Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Spurs have enjoyed a thrilling debut campaign in the competition, beating holders Inter Milan in their group before overcoming AC Milan to reach the last eight.

Friday’s quarter-final draw has ensured that Tottenham’s adventure will continue at the Bernabeu on 5th April.

No side has won the competition more times than Real but Spurs manager Redknapp is unfazed by the prospect of facing another of Europe’s greats.

“It’s a fantastic draw,” he said. “What a game to look forward to against one of the greatest clubs in world football.

Great days

“You have to look forward to games like this. These are the great days in your life and great days in Tottenham’s history.

“We’ll go there and give it a real go and you couldn’t have a more exciting or tougher game.”

Barcelona are the favourites to win this year’s Champions League with bookmakers putting Real next in line, and Jose Mourinho’s star-studded squad is currently hot on the heels of Barca in the Spanish league.

Yet Redknapp is eager to pit his wits against the former Chelsea boss, who won the competition with Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan last season.

“I’ve said all along that the two Spanish clubs were, for me, the favourites to win it,” added the Spurs boss.

“We’ve drawn Real Madrid, who are pushing Barcelona all the way for the championship with big players and a fantastic manager. In my opinion, he’s one of the all-time greats. He was amazing for English football when he came.

“But we’ve got a chance against anyone. We feel we can play against anyone and give them a game.”

The second leg is at White Hart Lane on 13th April and should Spurs upset the odds again then they will face Barca or unfancied Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals.
