Take That come face to face with their comedy doubles in a special sketch to be screened during tonight’s Comic Relief TV extravaganza.

Spoof band Fake That consists of David Walliams, John Bishop, Catherine Tate, James Corden and Alan Carr.

The wannabes will audition in front of the real Take That in a bid to get donations rolling in on Red Nose Day.

The BBC One show will also feature special episodes of EastEnders, Doctor Who and Outnumbered.

David Walliams has already completed the 24-hour Panel People marathon in aid of Comic Relief, which saw him take part in back-to-back celebrity panel shows.

He has now been transformed into Fake That’s Howard Donald.

“Being in a boy band for the day was really tiring,” said Walliams. “We had to do all the dance moves. But when Take That did it they were like 22 – I’m 39, and I just thought ‘I can’t handle this’.”

Tonight’s programme is the culmination of weeks of fundraising events with stars raising money for projects across the UK and in developing countries.

The Comic Relief telethon in 2009 raised £82.3m for the charity’s work at home in the UK and abroad.

James Corden will also revive his Gavin and Stacey character Smithy, who will this year be hanging out with Sir Paul McCartney.

Other highlights include a special version of Masterchef featuring Ruby Wax, Claudia Winkleman and Miranda Hart, and a spoof of ITV’s hit period drama Downton Abbey.

Comic Relief – Funny for Money is live on BBC One from 7pm.
