ABUJA – Former Ambassador to Ireland and Iceland, Dr. Kema Chikwe, has urged Nigerians to embrace politics than perceiving it to be a dirty vocation.

She said it was only when people engage in the politics of the land that they would have an opportunity to serve and make a change.

Chikwe noted in Abuja, during a fund raising programme organised by business and political associates in her bid for the Imo East senatorial seat at the senate, that politics defined the future and direction of every nation and should not be left in the hands of a few. She lamented that people do not trust politicians and had always thought that politicians had to pay for support and patronage, an impression she hoped will change with time for the progress and development of the country.

The former aviation minister, however, said she was excited to run for the senate because she wanted to make a lot of changes, not only in her constituency but also Nigeria as a whole. She said the people needed a new orientation in order to stop looking helplessly at the government when the people were actually the government.
