\n<\/span><\/p>\nA Bristol man accused of ordering the murder of his wife on their honeymoon in South Africa can remain on bail.<\/p>\n
Shrien Dewani was told by Belmarsh Magistrates the bail extension was on condition he admits himself to hospital in Bristol and agrees to be examined by a psychiatrist instructed by the government of South Africa.<\/p>\n
His wife Anni, 28, was found shot dead in Cape Town after being kidnapped.<\/p>\n
The next hearing will be on 23 March at City of London Magistrates.<\/p>\n
Mr Dewani was told he does not need to attend that hearing.<\/p>\n
A full extradition hearing will be on 3 May and will last for three days.<\/p>\n
‘Suicide attempt’<\/span><\/p>\nMr Dewani had been on bail at his home in Westbury-on-Trym in Bristol but the South African authorities, who want to extradite him, asked that he be taken into custody after what was thought to be a suicide attempt last month.<\/p>\n
Lawyers for both sides agreed the care home owner, who is said to be suffering from severe post-traumatic stress syndrome, should be admitted to the Priory Hospital in Bristol.<\/p>\n
He remains subject to a \u00a3250,000 bail and strict conditions including a curfew and the requirement that he report daily to a nearby police station.<\/p>\n
Mrs Dewani, from Sweden, had been married to Mr Dewani 31, for two weeks when she was killed. <\/p>\n
The couple’s taxi was hijacked on 13 November in Cape Town as they travelled through the Gugulethu township. <\/p>\n
Mrs Dewani’s body was later found in the abandoned car. Mr Dewani had been released unharmed.<\/p>\n
Mziwamadoda Qwabe, 25, and Xolile Mngeni, 23, are charged with murder, kidnapping and robbery with aggravating circumstances.<\/p>\n
The trial of Mr Qwabe and Mr Mngeni has been postponed until 1 June for further investigation.<\/p>\n
Taxi driver Zola Tongo, 31, from Bothasig, Cape Town, has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for murder, kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and perverting the course of justice.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
