{"id":301013,"date":"2011-03-11T10:32:54","date_gmt":"2011-03-11T10:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/11\/airports-boss-gets-151000-rise\/"},"modified":"2011-03-11T10:32:54","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T10:32:54","slug":"airports-boss-gets-151000-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/11\/airports-boss-gets-151000-rise\/","title":{"rendered":"Airports boss gets \u00a3151,000 rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"56.518705036\">\n        \t\t  <span><br \/>\n    <span>11 March 2011<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Last updated at <\/span><span>05:32 ET<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The chief executive of BAA, which owns Heathrow airport, was given a \u00a3151,000 pay rise for 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Matthews, who apologised to MPs this week for the recent snow chaos at Heathrow, saw his pay rise to \u00a3971,000, according to BAA&#8217;s annual report.<\/p>\n<p>BAA said the increase was because Mr Matthews now received pension payments directly, not into his pension scheme.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday he faced a Transport Select Committee hearing into Heathrow&#8217;s failings during December&#8217;s snow chaos.<\/p>\n<p>  <span>&#8216;Overwhelmed&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Colin Matthews&#8217; basic salary increased by 3.6% in 2010,&#8221; said BAA. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The numbers in the annual accounts reflect the fact that since April 2010, pension payments are paid directly to Mr Matthews and no longer to his pension scheme.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Monday Mr Matthews admitted that Heathrow was &#8220;overwhelmed&#8221; by the amount of snow and accepted that communication with airlines could have been better during four days of huge passenger disruption.<\/p>\n<p>He said after the disruption that he would forgo his annual bonus.
