{"id":300912,"date":"2011-03-11T10:30:30","date_gmt":"2011-03-11T10:30:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/11\/cash-boost-for-african-football\/"},"modified":"2011-03-11T10:30:30","modified_gmt":"2011-03-11T10:30:30","slug":"cash-boost-for-african-football","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/11\/cash-boost-for-african-football\/","title":{"rendered":"Cash boost for African football"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" align=\"right\" width=\"226\" cellpadding=\"0\" readability=\"1\">\n<tr readability=\"2\">\n<td readability=\"4\">\n<div readability=\"7\">\n\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/8736c1celogo_new226.jpg.jpg\" width=\"226\" height=\"170\" alt=\"Caf logo\" border=\"0\" vspace=\"0\" hspace=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All of Caf&#8217;s main competitions will be sponsored by Orange<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p><!-- E IIMA --><\/p>\n<p><b>African football will earn almost $140m in television and marketing revenue from its competitions over the seven years to 2017.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Confederation of African Football (Caf) financial statements show a jump of more than 100 percent in revenue. <\/p>\n<p>All the money is from sports agency Sportfive, which has blanket rights to the major African competitions. <\/p>\n<p>The French firm is providing a minimum guarantee of $137m for the rights to six different competitions. <\/p>\n<p>There will be $46.8 million for four successive editions of the Africa Cup of Nations, starting with last year&#8217;s tournament in Angola to the 2015 finals in Morocco. <\/p>\n<p>Up to 2008, Caf earned $5.5 million every two years for Nations Cup rights. <\/p>\n<p>A seven-year deal for the rights to the African Champions League and the African Confederation Cup, the two annual club competitions, will earn Caf $71.4 million through to 2017. <\/p>\n<p>African football&#8217;s governing body was previously paid $5 million annually for the club competition rights although before 1997 they did not generate any money. <\/p>\n<p>Caf will earn a further $17 million until 2015 for the African Nations Championship, a new tournament for national sides held every two years made up of locally-based players. <\/p>\n<p>Sportfive, part of Lagardere Sports, has also paid $2.25 million for the rights until 2016 to the African Youth Championships at under-20 level and the African Under-17 Championship, both of which are held every two years. <\/p>\n<p>The Caf financial report for 2010, released to reporters on Thursday, showed a surplus of $15.53 million, a big jump on the operating profit of under $1 million announced one year ago.\n<\/p>\n<p><!-- E BO --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/8736c1celogo_new226.jpg-150x150.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>See the original post here:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/go\/rss\/-\/sport1\/hi\/football\/africa\/9421982.stm\" title=\"Cash boost for African football\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cash boost for African football<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> All of Caf&#8217;s main competitions will be sponsored by Orange African football will earn almost $140m in television and marketing revenue from its competitions over the seven years to 2017.
