DENVER (AP)\u2014An attorney for Perrish Cox<\/a>(notes)<\/a>,<\/span> a Denver Broncos<\/a> cornerback
\ncharged with sexual assault, is asking a judge to hold a court hearing in secret
\nbecause allowing the public and media to attend could taint a jury.<\/p>\n

The Denver Post, The Associated Press and the New York Times oppose the
\nmove.<\/p>\n

Most of the documents in the case have been sealed, including an affidavit
\ncontaining details of the allegations that led to Cox\u2019s arrest on Dec. 9. The
\nalleged assault happened Sept. 6. The Denver Post first obtained a copy of the
\nrequest filed Tuesday by attorney Harvey A. Steinberg.<\/p>\n

Steinberg argues that allowing the public and media to attend the
\npreliminary hearing, where authorities will provide a judge details of the
\nevidence, would affect Cox\u2019s right to a fair trial.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
