The director of Spider-man the musical is set to quit the blighted production, reports suggest.<\/p>\n

Several newspapers have quoted senior sources as saying Julie Taymor is in talks over royalty rights as she prepares to exit the $65 million Broadway musical.<\/p>\n

At the same time it was reported that the production will undergo an overhaul that will shut it down for several weeks and cause a three-month delay in its opening date.<\/p>\n

The New York Times reported the troubled show, created by director Julie Taymor with music written by U2’s Bono and The Edge, was due to open on March 15.<\/p>\n

But after a record breaking number of preview shows, the musical is unlikely now to open until June.<\/p>\n

According to the paper, the sixth delay in the show’s short history is needed for new rehearsals and to give the cast a break from preview performances.<\/p>\n

Rick Miramontez, a spokesman for the Spider-man, Turn Off The Dark, said today: ‘The production is not confirming any reports of a shut-down.’<\/p>\n

If the shut-down goes ahead it will be one of the largest setbacks yet for the most expensive musical on Broadway after cost over-runs, a string of injuries to cast and crew and a series of safety violations due to its ambitious flying routines.<\/p>\n

It has been in previews since late last year and has been faring well at the box office, taking in $1.28 million last week, but a series of scathing reviews and problems unprecedented on Broadway is turning the show into a Broadway legend of disastrous productions.<\/p>\n

Mishaps: The show has faced a catalogue of disasters from near-bankruptcy in 2009 to the serious injury of two actors during performances last December<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Spider-Man has had a record 99 preview performances, more than any other show in history.<\/p>\n

It is also twice as expensive as the next big-budget Broadway show, Shrek the Musical.<\/p>\n

Sources close to the production told the New York Times that Mrs Taymor is in the throws of a complex climbdown as lawyers try and wrestle details of how she can gracefully exit the show.<\/p>\n

As the musical’s creator, director, mask designer and one of its two script-writers, negotiations over ‘who owns what material, and how the royalties and future development of the show in productions around the world will be worked out,’ are very delicate, a source told the paper.<\/p>\n

Apparently, both sides are keen to prevent having to fire her outright, which would almost certainly result in a lengthy and embarrassing court battle.<\/p>\n

A mint condition copy of one of the world’s rarest comics, which introduced the world to the web slinging, wall climbing superhero, has gone under the hammer and sold for the staggering sum.<\/p>\n

Amazing Fantasy \u00a315 hit the stands in 1962 – the year Marilyn Monroe died of an overdose and the Cuban Missle Crisis raged on.<\/p>\n

And comic buffs, eager to get their hands on a piece of history, fought out an epic online auction that lasted a gruelling two hours.<\/p>\n

The lucky winner, who has not been named, stumped up the mega amount to secure the world famous Marvel title created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.<\/p>\n

The extremely rare comic cost a mere 12 cents when it first went on sale – but fetched a staggering $1.1million (more than \u00a3680,000) on Tuesday when it was sold by ComicsConnect.com.<\/p>\n

The mag was rated as 9.6 out of 10 on the specially devised grading scale used for working out the quality and condition of a comic.<\/p>\n

Leading collectible comic expert Stephen Fishler, the founder of ComicsConnect.com who sold the mag, said: ‘There are very few books and characters that can dictate this kind of price and Spider-Man in Amazing Fantasy \u00a315 is one of them.<\/p>\n

‘The late 1950s and early 1960s are considered the Silver Age for comic books.<\/p>\n

‘The sale of this book crushed all previous records. Up until today’s $1.1 million sale, the record sales price of a comic book from this era was $250,000.<\/p>\n

‘People have often wondered how much this near-perfect condition book would sell for, and today we found out.’<\/p>\n

But Spider-Man has still been out done by rival superhero Superman, whose debut comic Action Comics \u00a31 sold for a whopping B\u00a31.5million – which is a world record.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
