KENYA will renew rivalry with New Zealand for the third time this season alongside Wales and Cook Islands in Pool ‘A’ of the IRB Sevens slated for next month in Adelaide.<\/p>\n

Kenya will open their campaign against Cook Islands before a tricky encounter against Wales. They wind up their preliminary matches against series leaders New Zealand. Kenya have met both Wales and New Zealand this year in the IRB Sevens series, winning against the Welsh and losing twice to the Kiwis. Adelaide has fond memories for the Kenyans as they reached the Main Cup final in 2009 but lost to South Africa 26-7.<\/p>\n

Kenya Sevens coach Benjamin Ayimba termed the pool favourable and said Kenya will be seeking to reach semi in a bid to move up the standings in the circuit. “It’s a favourable draw but it won’t be easy. We have faced the two teams earlier in the season We know how Wales and New Zealand play and we will have chance of berating them in the pool matches,” added Ayimba.<\/p>\n

Ayimba observed that Adelaide has been a good hunting ground and expected the side to pick more points and continue their good form in the series,” added Ayimba.<\/p>\n

Joint series leaders England will be looking to kick-start their season in Pool “B” with opening matches against Argentina, Scotland and Papua New Guinea. USA Sevens runners-up Fiji head Pool “C” and face three tough matches against host nation Australia, USA and Tonga.<\/p>\n

Having won the Cup title in Las Vegas, their first since winning in Adelaide in April 2009, South Africa head Pool D. The resurgent Boks face defending Adelaide and World Series champions Samoa as well as France and Japan.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Strathmore University upset Nakuru RFC 12-5 in a tough Enterprise Cup match at the Nakuru Athletic Club.<\/p>\n

Edwin Makori scored a try for Nakuru in the sixth minute for a 5-0 lead at half time. Strathmore University bounced back in the second half and piled pressure on the Rift Valley based outfit. Felix Ayange and Edwin Salamba scored a try each for Strathmore University in the 72nd and 79th minutes with Ken Andola adding a conversion.<\/p>\n

Strathmore coach Mitchell Ocholla said his side showed resilience throughout the match ” In the second half, we never gave up hope. We kept on attacking and the pressure paid off in the second half. I am happy we are in the semifinals,” said Ocholla.<\/p>\n

Strathmore will now face champions Quins in the semi-finals. Nondies cruised to the semi-finals with a crushing 36-19 victory over Mwamba. Kanyi Gitonga’s charges were quick off the blocks and laid siege to the Mwamba try box, scoring five tries to Mwamba’s three. Impala registered a 56-19 victory over relegated Mean Machine to book a date with Nondies in the second semi-final.<\/p>\n
