A disclosure by Hon Freddie Blay, former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, that he no longer considers himself a member of the Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP), has driven Citi FM, an Accra-based private radio station, to describe him as a \u201ctraitor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr. Blay, for 12 years, represented the Ellembelle Constituency on the ticket of the CPP. He left Parliament in 2008 and announced yesterday that he no longer saw himself as a part of the CPP family and was considering joining the New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n
After granting an exclusive interview to Citi FM over the decision, unnamed journalists from the station put out a lead story in which he was described as a traitor.<\/p>\n
Citi FM, in reporting the story said, \u201cMr. Blay is viewed within the CPP as a traitor.\u201d The station did not attribute the \u201ctraitor\u201d tag to anyone and did not also claim to have spoken to any CPP member. The tag was simply put out as an editorial opinion of the author of the news report.<\/p>\n
The radio station reported further that Mr. Blay lost the Ellembelle seat because he had betrayed the CPP by campaigning for the Presidential candidate of the NPP, as against the CPP\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, when Mr Blay spoke to Citi FM on his CPP resignation, the issue of being an alleged traitor was not raised at all. \u201cIt is unfortunate but some persons at Citi FM know what agenda they are setting and what interests they have in which political party I consider myself to belong to or not to belong to.<\/p>\n
I have always considered the station as a friend but I never knew they could be this wicked,\u201d he said. \u201cI am not a traitor. I am a realist and I do my best to take right decisions,\u201d was Mr Blay\u2019s response to the \u201ctraitor\u201d tag when Daily Guide spoke to him over the matter.<\/p>\n
Neither the CPP nor the NPP has yet commented on the disclosure by Mr Blay. Citi Fm and some of its presenters have recently come under fire for showing biases in their reportage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
