There was exchange of heavy gun fire between the two feuding chieftaincy royal gates in the Buipe Traditional area of Gonjaland on Friday March 4, 2011, at about 1 pm which lasted for several minutes.<\/p>\n
The Jinapor and Lebu Royal Gates have been at each other\u2019s throat over the occupancy of the Buipe skin.<\/p>\n
It is not quite certain as to what triggered the gun battle but several eyewitnesses accounted that persons believed to be warriors of Chief Bawa Lebu Awushie II laid ambush and attacked some villagers who were travelling from a farming community called Waranto to participate in this year\u2019s Damba Festival organized by the Jinapor gate.<\/p>\n
Unconfirmed reports have it that several casualties were recorded.<\/p>\n
Both Dr. Abdulai Jinapor, spokesperson for the Buipewura and his brother Samuel Abdulai Jinapor who were home at the time of the gun battle had to take cover for their own safety.<\/p>\n
Residents of Buipe have called for reinforcements to forestall any bloodbath.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Seidu Fatawu Awudu, Spokesperson of Chief Bawa Lebu Awushie II has denied that members of the Gate instigated the attack.<\/p>\n
He mentioned Amidu Ibrahim, Kwame Mensah, Salifu Mustapha as three of his brothers who have been shot.
He accused the Jinapor gate of doing everything possible to make Buipe ungovernable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
