{"id":289243,"date":"2011-03-04T11:52:06","date_gmt":"2011-03-04T11:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/03\/04\/ocado-stretched-by-growing-sales\/"},"modified":"2011-03-04T11:52:06","modified_gmt":"2011-03-04T11:52:06","slug":"ocado-stretched-by-growing-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/03\/04\/ocado-stretched-by-growing-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Ocado stretched by growing sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"57.4853037231\">\n        \t\t  <span><br \/>\n    <span>4 March 2011<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Last updated at <\/span><span>06:52 ET<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ocado has said it plans to make big increases in capacity to meet burgeoning demand.<\/p>\n<p>The firm has already opened a new depot in Bristol, with another to follow in Wimbledon and a major expansion of its key Hatfield site also planned.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes as Ocado saw sales rise 25% in the 12 weeks to 20 February compared with a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, capacity constraints meant a lot of demand went unmet, according to the company&#8217;s chief financial officer.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Demand] is very significantly greater than the rate of growth we are currently observing,&#8221; said Andrew Bracey, noting that many customers had failed to place orders online because delivery slots were unavailable.<\/p>\n<p>The new Bristol depot in Ocado&#8217;s distribution network means the company can now reach 70% of UK households, including those in South Wales for the first time, <a href=\"http:\/\/production.investis.com\/ocado\/rns\/rns-item?id=4087544\">according to the company&#8217;s statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other improvements are expected to deliver a 25-30% increase in capacity this year.<\/p>\n<p>The investment is needed, according to Mr Bracey, as the company&#8217;s customer base expands into medium and lower-income households.<\/p>\n<p>Ocado primarily delivers groceries from John Lewis subsidiary Waitrose, and signed a 10-year delivery contract last year with the supermarket chain.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>See the article here:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/go\/rss\/int\/news\/-\/news\/business-12646610\" title=\"Ocado stretched by growing sales\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ocado stretched by growing sales<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> 4 March 2011 Last updated at 06:52 ET Ocado has said it plans to make big increases in capacity to meet burgeoning demand.
