Zsa Zsa Gabor has refused to have part of her left leg amputated.<\/p>\n
The 94-year-old screen legend – who lost her right limb below the knee earlier this year after gangrene set in – was advised by doctors to undergo the operation after she was admitted to hospital on Wednesday (02.03.11) when blood flow to the leg suddenly stopped.<\/p>\n
However, she has refused the surgery and is instead taking medication, with her husband Prince Frederic von Anhalt saying she has a 50-50 chance” of surviving another year without having the operation.<\/p>\n
Zsa Zsa is expected to leave Los Angeles’ Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center later today (04.03.11).<\/p>\n
The actress has been in and out of hospital since suffering from two blood clots following hip surgery last July, and was even read her last rites by a priest in November.<\/p>\n
She was released from hospital last month in order to celebrate her 94th birthday at home surrounded by friends and family.<\/p>\n
Her publicist John Blanchette revealed doctors worked hard to have her ready to leave hospital for the celebrations, saying: “They did a magnificent job getting her back. They treated her with an aggressive treatment of antibiotics. The doctors said it was 50-50, but it worked.<\/p>\n
“This has been a long, tough road since 2002, when she had an accident that originally disabled her. She has never been able to walk and her health has spiralled down. <\/p>\n
“But she has kept her sense of humour and she’s a fighter. She always has been.”<\/p>\n
