Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has claimed that he was interested in managing Al-Ahli when the UAE club offered him a deal last season.

However, the former Portsmouth boss eventually chose to remain at White Hart Lane and guide Spurs to the top four and achieve Champions League football.

The north London outfit have since managed to put in strong performances on the European stage, and are now in the quarter-finals of the competition.

“There was an offer [from Al-Ahli] and I was intrigued,” Redknapp said, according to the Daily Mail.

“I love coming here [to Dubai]. It’s a great way of life; it’s safe, no trouble, you can do things, you can go out in the open. I was interested.”

Spurs were in Dubai for a few days this week and underwent a warm weather training camp before returning to London to resume their current campaign.

“Everything’s been going okay – we’re hoping to get one or two players back to fitness. That’s the key for us,” the 64-year-old added.

“We’ve had such a hectic schedule I just thought it would be good to get the players away for five days, just to break it up.

“They’ve trained hard, worked hard and it’s been a good break for them.”

Al-Ahli also made headlines in last year for the surprise capture of World Cup-winning defender Fabio Cannavaro and the appointment of David O’Leary as manager.
