\n Designer John Galliano “unreservedly” apologized Wednesday for his behavior, which included alleged recent racial and anti-Semitic slurs as well as vile pro-Hitler sentiments expressed in a videotape dating back to last December.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, French prosecutors said Galliano will stand trial for allegedly making anti-Semitic comments in Paris last week. The trial could take place later this year, authorities added.<\/p>\n

The incidents involving Galliano’s remarks resulted in widespread condemnation of the Dior chief designer and his being fired from the fashion house on Tuesday after an initial suspension last week.<\/p>\n

In a statement provided by his lawyers on Wednesday, Galliano, 50, said: “Anti-Semitism and racism have no part in our society. I unreservedly apologize for my behavior in causing any offence.”<\/p>\n

Galliano also said he was “subjected to verbal harassment and an unprovoked assault when an individual tried to hit me with a chair having taken violent exception to my look and my clothing” during the altercation in the Paris caf\u00e9 La Perle last week. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
