Television presenter Fiona Phillips \u2014 a
\n50-year-old mother-of-two \u2014 believes less is more in her utilitarian yet
\nchic wardrobe.
<\/span><\/p>\n

Fiona\u2019s big break into TV was as CNN News\u2019 entertainment
\nreporter, before joining GMTV in 1997, where she fronted the programme
\nfor 11 years. She lives in London with her husband, former GMTV producer
\nMartin Frizell, and their sons Nathaniel, 11, and Mackenzie,
\neight\u2009.\u2009<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\"Well-stocked<\/p>\n

Well-stocked wardrobe: Fiona Phillips loves the utilitarian military look<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I love winter because I can wear skirts, thick tights and jumpers, so I\u2019m chic and cosy. When it gets warmer, I like a classic black blazer with jeans and a stripe T-shirt. <\/span><\/p>\n

I go for a pared-down, fairly boyish look, with lots of military-inspired items from Belstaff and Balenciaga. It\u2019s probably because I was brought up in a household full of boys, but I have a tomboy sense of style. <\/span><\/p>\n

I like very neutral colours \u2014 black, dark brown, navy and taupe \u2014 and I can\u2019t stand pink! I need to feel at my best to pull off red, because it can either light up my face or drown it.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sexy, fitted white shirts are some of the staples in my wardrobe. I\u2019ve spent years searching for the perfect one.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve finally hit upon Uniqlo: the fit is brilliant and they cost only \u00a319.99, so I\u2019ve got three of them.
<\/span><\/p>\n

And I recently saw someone wearing a Prada-esque smartly cut, figure-hugging hooded coat and it turned out it was Jil Sander for Uniqlo \u2014 so that\u2019s now next on my list. <\/span><\/p>\n

I like Calvin Klein for its casual classic clothing. I buy carefully and seldom. I\u2019d rather buy one expensive piece than eight shoddy items. <\/span><\/p>\n

One of my biggest regrets is not buying a brilliant Jonathan Saunders long, bright red, fine jersey dress a few years ago.
<\/span><\/p>\n

It had long sleeves and a crew neck, and the train flared out as it hit the ground. It was so sophisticated.
<\/span><\/p>\n

It was \u00a31,200 and I\u2019d have felt guilty spending that much \u2014 but in retrospect there are so many occasions when I would have worn it.\u00a0 It still haunts me.<\/span><\/p>\n

FIONA’S WARDROBE FAVOURITES<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

BIKER BOOTS
<\/span><\/p>\n

There are certain things in my
\nwardrobe that I keep coming back to\u2009.\u2009.\u2009.\u2009and I\u2019ve had these black Jones
\nthe Bootmaker boots for at least 15 years. <\/span><\/p>\n

They\u2019re obviously supposed to be
\ncountry hunting boots, given the detailing. I don\u2019t know what I\u2019ll do if
\nthere comes a day when they can\u2019t be repaired, but I would certainly
\nnever throw them out.<\/span><\/p>\n

TIBI DAY DRESS
<\/span><\/p>\n

I bought this dress from a
\nshop in New York. It\u2019s a really gorgeous simple, black, crew-neck,
\nlong-sleeved dress that sits just above the knee.
<\/span><\/p>\n

When I\u2019ve spent too
\nlong doing my face up and I\u2019m in a rush, thinking \u2018Oh my god, what am I
\ngoing to wear?, I feel confident knowing it always looks good \u2014 and it
\ncan be easily dressed up for going out in the evening with high heels
\nand jewelle<\/span>ry.<\/span><\/p>\n

CITIZENS OF HUMANITY JEANS<\/span><\/p>\n

I got these dark blue skinny jeans\u00a0 on a photoshoot and never thought I\u2019d fit into them, but they\u2019re
\namazing. I\u2019ve only just recently taken them off for long enough to put
\nthem in the wash. I also love my J Brand Houlihan jeans, in khaki and\u00a0
\ndark grey.<\/span><\/p>\n

BELSTAFF JACKET
<\/span><\/p>\n

I love the military look \u2014 I don\u2019t think
\nit ever goes out of fashion. My Belstaff jacket is a great
\nfind. It\u2019s a browny khaki colour and tight fitting. I practically live
\nin it. I look smart straight away whether I\u2019m wearing it with jeans or
\nheels.<\/span><\/p>\n

BURBERRY DRESS<\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

I Have a simple Burberry dress in navy
\nwith a slight sheen to it. Navy is a really classy colour \u2014 it\u2019s not as
\nharsh as black \u2014 but I always have a dilemma about what colour shoes to
\nwear with it.<\/span><\/p>\n

PRADA TOTE BAG<\/span>
<\/span><\/p>\n

This Messenger bag fits in
\nperfectly with my boyish military look. It\u2019s got a lovely postbag
\ndetailing on the clasp, and I just sling it across me with everything,
\nincluding my laptop, stuffed in. <\/span><\/p>\n

WOLFORD SATIN TIGHTS
<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been buying Wolford tights\u00a0 for
\nyears. They\u2019re amazing. People always ask me where I got them. They do
\ncost \u00a330, so they\u2019re not cheap,\u00a0 but I\u2019ve got a pair that I\u2019ve had \u2014 no
\nword of a lie \u2014 for 20 years. They just last and last.<\/span><\/p>\n
