Meredith Baxter is set to open up about the abuse she suffered at the hands of ex-husband David Birney, in her new memoir.\n<\/p>\n
\nMeredith Baxter, the American television star who yesterday admitted she was the victim of domestic violence, will open up about the abuse in her new book ‘Untied’, reports the New York Daily News.
\nBaxter, who came out as a lesbian on the ‘Today Show’ in 2009, returned to the Nbc program on Tuesday (1st March 2011) to make another shocking announcement. The 63-year-old alleged her former husband and co-star David Birney abused her during their 15-year marriage. When quizzed on why she stayed with the actor, Baxter replied, “I didn’t know I had a choice. I didn’t know I could go. He’s not going to pick someone who’s on top of themselves and confident and aggressive. For him to be who he needed to be, it needed to be someone who was mousy and quiet and retiring, and that’s what I was”. Baxter, who has three children with Birney, is set to reveal further details of the abuse in her forthcoming memoir. People Magazine recently published an extract from the book, in which the actress says, “It was so sudden and unexpected, I couldn’t tell you which hand hit me, or even how hard. I do recall thinking, I’d better not get up because he’s going to hit me again”.\n<\/p>\n
\nMeredith Baxter’s last movie appearance came in the straight-to-video film ‘Airline Disaster’ in which she played the President of America, who learns that domestic terrorists have hijacked the passenger jet that her brother is flying in.<\/p>\n
