Justin Guarini has joined the cast of the Broadway musical ‘American Idiot’ and will make his first appearance tonight (1st March 2011).

Justin Guarini, the American actor and musician who finished runner-up on season one of American Idol, has landed a role in the Broadway musical ‘American Idiot’, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Guarini has landed the role of ‘Will’ on the hit musical, inspired by Green Day’s 2004 rock opera. The Afi frontman Davey Havoc has also joined the cast and will play ‘St Jimmy’, a role currently played by Green Day’s frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. On announcing Guarini’s casting, director Michael Mayer said, “Justin blew us away in his audition and I am thrilled to have him join the company of American Idiot”. The actor is no stranger to Broadway, having made his debut in the fall of 2010 in the musical version of ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown’ at the Lincoln Centre Theatre.

After losing out on the final of ‘Idol’, Justin Guarini released his self-titled debut album in 2003. The record sold 134,000 copies and in December 2003 the singer was dropped by Rca Records.
