Mother of one of the seventeen (17) dismissed pregnant students of Aduman Senior High School in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region has told Citi News that her daughter is not pregnant.

Abena Frimpomaa in an interview said a series of pregnancy tests conducted at different hospitals on her daughter have proved otherwise.

The Headmaster of the school sent the 17 girls home after nurses confirmed that they were all pregnant. The Ghana Education Service has already said that its rules do not allow for pregnant students to be sacked from school.

Human rights activist, Nana Oye Lithur has also condemned the dismissal of the students, describing it as a violation of their reproductive and health rights.

According to Abena Frimpomaa, her daughter’s rights to education have been violated, adding that she is ready. “My daughter came home from school, I was away when she came but when I returned I gave money to her to return but later she called me that her friend had informed her that her name was on the notice board that she was pregnant. I went with her to see the headmaster and he told me that my daughter was not the only person whose urine was tested and confirmed pregnant”.

“We went to three different hospitals to run checks on my daughter and it was confirmed that she was not pregnant. I am ready to take on the headmaster because I have noticed that he is a bad man who wants to ruin my daughter’s future”.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) says it is following the issue and will come public by the end of the day on the action taken by the headmaster.
