General Secretary of the ruling Nation Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has declared that there is no way NDC will give its consent to the implementation of the Representation of the People\u2019s Amendment Law, for the 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n
Mr. Asiedu Nketia said the NDC took the position when it was in opposition and still stands by that position.<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Mr. Asiedu Nketia said a committee established by the Electoral Commission to look into the practicality or otherwise of the law, can go ahead and cancel its recommendation since the NDC will not change its position. \u201cIt is just impossible to implement that law, that\u2019s why nobody wants to implement it,\u201d Mr. Asiedu Nketia said.<\/p>\n
The NDC scribe said there were other options which could be used, rather than the ROPAL. One of such options can he mentioned could be the creation of seats for Ghanaians living outside to elect their own representatives to come and represent them in the parliament.<\/p>\n
But the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie disagrees. He said it will be good if the system was implemented to enable Ghanaians living abroad to also exercise their rights to vote. Mr. Owusu Afriyie however said the whole decision lies in the powers of the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Public Relations Officer of the Electoral Commission Christian Owusu Parry said the committee was still deliberating on the issue so he was not in the position to say anything about it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
