\"\"<\/a>The National Communications Authority (NCA) has announced the award\u00a0 of $5.5 million Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) licenses to GoldKey Properties Limited.<\/p>\n

The company, the NCA said\u00a0 won the bid to have the 2500 \u2013 2690 MHz band for the next ten years.<\/p>\n

NCA said it used a multi\u2013stage selection process to arrive at the decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Authority employed a multi-stage selection process (a combination of \u201cbeauty contest\u201d and auction) to select the BWA licensees among a total of five applicants. At the end of the process GoldKey Properties Limited won a paired slot of 2x15MHz at the final Auction Price of Five Million, Five Hundred Thousand (US$5,500,000.00) United States Dollars\u201d, the NCA said on its website.<\/p>\n

According to the NCA, the BWA licenses are intended to provide wireless broadband connectivity to subscribers and licensees shall be authorized to develop and operate broadband networks to provide nationwide BWA services as well as a suitable technology of their choice to provide fixed, nomadic or mobile broadband services throughout Ghana.<\/p>\n

The NCA also announced that Broadband Home (BBH) has also opted to remain in the band with an unpaired 30 MHz slot for the final auction price.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe National Communications Authority is committed to employing appropriate regulatory mechanisms to achieve Government\u2019s Policy objective of giving \u2018every citizen and resident of the Republic of Ghana access to high quality and affordable Broadband services, to facilitate the accelerated transformation of Ghana into a knowledge-based society and technology-driven economy\u2019 \u201d, NCA concluded.<\/p>\n
