Reliable Information reaching the Daily Guide newspaper indicates that the Aflao Border is gradually becoming a hub for cocaine and marijuana trafficking.<\/p>\n
Some security operatives who confirmed this to Daily Guide disclosed that based on a tip off, they intercepted 212 wrappers of substances suspected to be cocaine and four parcels, in addition to 101 wrappers of Indian hemp popularly known as \u2018wee\u2019 from two of the illegal drug centers around the border.<\/p>\n
The security personnel, who failed to disclose which security agency they belonged to or who they were working for, stated that the cocaine was intercepted at Dzolekpome, a few meters away from the border, behind the area where the clearing agents were, while the wee was intercepted at the beach area which stretched between the lorry station and the border.<\/p>\n
They said when they went to Dzolekpome to ascertain the information and intelligence they had gathered, the illegal drug traders were briskly doing business while others were sniffing a substance suspected to be cocaine.<\/p>\n
On seeing the personnel, the drug peddlers panicked and took to their heels. However in an attempt to grab one of them, he dropped his bag which contained some whitish substances believed to be cocaine wrapped in papers and put in a white envelop.<\/p>\n
At the beach area, a similar scenario occurred which led to the interception of the wrappers of the suspected wee. On reaching Aflao, the security operatives took this reporter round the hideouts of the drug dealers around the border.<\/p>\n
At the beach area, as many as 40 young men were spotted in smaller groups, standing, sitting or lying under coconut trees in the area, which served as spots for their illegal business.<\/p>\n
As usual, they were going about their usual business. Some were selling; others were buying while another group was also found smoking. Both sellers and buyers expertly transacted business in a manner that made it difficult for one to know what was transpiring between them.<\/p>\n
The drugs and the money were exchanged by a mere handshake, and sometimes the seller would drop the drug at a strategic spot for the buyer to pick up.<\/p>\n
According to some traders around the area, activities of the drug dealers were worrying. They explained that \u201cthey stay in their hideouts during the day and come out at night to attack traders, especially those who have no idea about their activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
One of them, who pleaded anonymity due to her popularity in the area, noted that the drug dealers were gradually taking over the area since their activities had led to an increase in the crime rate along the border. She said the situation did not speak well of Ghana: \u201cJust imagine entering Ghana for the first time only to be robbed.\u201d<\/p>\n
She therefore appealed to the police and other security agencies to flush the miscreants out of the area to facilitate smooth trade.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
