A man has been arrested for allegedly faking the hijacking of his rented car in order to use it as a payment for a debt in Midrand, police said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old man gave the BMW to another man to whom he owed an amount of money on Tuesday morning, Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe then opened a case at the police station, claiming to have been hijacked by two bogus police officers earlier on in the same area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company traced the vehicle to Edenvale through a tracker in the afternoon. Police contacted the man and met him in the street, Mogale said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe tried to bribe the officers with R4500 cash not to arrest him, but they turned it down.\u201d<\/p>\n

The man was expected to face charges of bribery and perjury soon. The car was recovered. \u2013 Sapa<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
