The National Chairman, National Action Council, Dr. Olapade Agoro, has described the reported move by the Independent National Electoral Commission to use manual voters\u2019 register for the April poll as perfidious.<\/span><\/p>\n

Agoro made the observation in a statement made available to our correspondent in Ibadan, Oyo State capital on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday PUNCH had exclusively reported that INEC would not use electronic voters\u2019 register for the elections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reacting to the publication, Agoro said the development had simply confirmed what he and a few people knew all along, that the electoral body could never conduct free, fair and credible elections.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said, \u201cAll the noise Jega had been making about his interest to lead INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections is nothing but shedding tears of blood in the graveyard of self-deceit to those ready to be fooled and willing to be deceived.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe nation once heard Prof. Maurice Iwu shedding tears and vowing that he would rather die than be seen failing to conduct credible elections in 2007.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Agoro said the first question any reasonable person will ask Jega is, why waste N87bn importing Direct Data Capturing machines and using same to conduct voter registration between January and February 2011, when he knew all along that the usage of electronic register violated the Electoral Act 2010.<\/span><\/p>\n

He asked, \u201cWhy is Jega wickedly injecting the deadly adder poisons of deceit to the self, fooling Nigerians that he is relying on the non existing but totally dead Electoral Act 2010 for the conduct of the elections 2011, when he knew of the existence of only valid and signed into law Electoral Act 2011 by President Goodluck Jonathan on January 10 2011?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor global technological imperatives and relevance advancement sake, how on earth can a manual register detect and prevent fraudulent practices such as double and multiple registration?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWith election period time constraints and well known Nigerian factor political incidentals in focus, how on earth shall INEC be able to correlate usage of Automatic Fingerprint Identification System software with its manual registers?<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHow shall voters\u2019 data stored in the DDC machines be retrievable during elections principled on manual registers? Will it not be better for Jega to please save Nigerians the pain and pang of going through the rigours of fraudulent elections with results already determined?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He advocated the convocation of a stakeholders\u2019 conference that would decide the way forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
