<\/p>\n Avram Grant<\/a> has hailed Scott Parker<\/a>\u2019s influence at West Ham<\/a> following another talismanic display by the midfielder which helped end Liverpool<\/a>\u2019s eight-game unbeaten run.<\/p>\nThe midfielder was a major doubt before West Ham\u2019s 3-1 victory after suffering a shoulder injury in training and Grant revealed Parker had required an injection in order to complete the match.<\/p>\n
Despite being unable to move his damaged shoulder yesterday, Parker enjoyed another stellar performance against Liverpool\u2019s midfield and the 30-year-old received the highest praise from the West Ham boss.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been his manager for less than a year but I wish I had a player like that wherever I go,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn training yesterday it was a bad, bad injury. He couldn\u2019t move his arms but the medical team did a good job. He turned and our pitch is not so good.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was very close to not playing but Scott is a special guy, he showed great spirit and we are used to it this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think one of the things we have, despite the problems, is the spirit was very high. Scott is the best example of this.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe needed an injection to play. I don\u2019t like to compare players, but he\u2019s my type of player. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe always gives 100 per cent, we are in modern times but I like some things old fashioned, it’s not about money or the girlfriends. He plays calm and gives passion.”<\/p>\n
First-half goals from Parker and Demba Ba gave Grant\u2019s side the advantage before the interval and although a tense finished was created after Glen Johnson netted with six minutes to go, Carlton Cole ensured West Ham\u2019s revival remained on course with a third in the closing stages.<\/p>\n
The win has kept West Ham in the relegation zone but Grant\u2019s men are now among a cluster of sides who will be targeting the 40-point safety mark.<\/p>\n
Grant has attributed his side\u2019s recent run to a number of players returning to fitness. Thomas Hitzlsperger, who made his debut for West Ham during Monday\u2019s FA Cup victory over Burnley, looked assured at Upton Park on Sunday, and the Israeli is buoyed the German\u2019s immediate impact.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe missed him, he has power and intensity. With him our midfield is more complete, we move the ball quickly. It\u2019s not easy to start the season injured and we have a few others coming back,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n
\u201cDemba and Hitzlsperger are players I\u2019ve followed for a long time and they belong to us. Both of them will get better with every game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Grant has reiterated his side\u2019s performances do not reflect the club\u2019s position in the relegation zone and the Israeli believes players returning from the sidelines will add healthy competition to the squad.<\/p>\n
The West Ham manager also insisted he is willing to change a winning formation and with the return of Robbie Keane and Victor Obinna yet to come, Grant should have an abundance of attackers to choose from.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t remember a situation like this where someone at the bottom can then be in 10th place. It’s important now to win games, sometimes it\u2019s not easy. We wanted to go on a run before. I think now because we have more competition it’s better,\u201d said Grant.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have quality. We are not a team for the bottom. We were bottom of the league but we play football like we are not.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think today in football you cant stick with one system, Robbie Keane is a very good player we need these types of players, and there are others when you win without them it creates competition.\u201d<\/p>\n
