{"id":281958,"date":"2011-02-25T09:00:23","date_gmt":"2011-02-25T09:00:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/02\/25\/new-date-in-cia-killer-hearing\/"},"modified":"2011-02-25T09:00:23","modified_gmt":"2011-02-25T09:00:23","slug":"new-date-in-cia-killer-hearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/02\/25\/new-date-in-cia-killer-hearing\/","title":{"rendered":"New date in &#8216;CIA killer&#8217; hearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"57.675944334\">\n        \t\t  <span><br \/>\n    <span>25 February 2011<\/span><br \/>\n<span>Last updated at <\/span><span>03:05 ET<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>An US official, reported to be a CIA contractor, is set to appear in a Pakistan court over the shooting of two men in January.<\/p>\n<p>The procedural hearing is to be held at Lahore&#8217;s Kot Lakhpat jail, where Raymond Davis, 36, is being detained.<\/p>\n<p>Police in Lahore will recommend that Mr Davis be tried for murder, after he allegedly killed two motorcyclists in Lahore last month.<\/p>\n<p>The US argues that Mr Davis has diplomatic immunity.<\/p>\n<p>Correspondents say the Pakistan government is under tremendous domestic pressure to put Mr Davis on trial.<\/p>\n<p>  <span>&#8216;Mistrust&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The former soldier says he acted in self-defence after the victims attempted to rob him in a busy street in the eastern city of Lahore.<\/p>\n<p>The BBC&#8217;s Aleem Maqbool in Lahore says the case has exposed the mistrust that exists between the two supposed allies.<\/p>\n<p>The revelation this week that Mr Davis was working as a CIA contractor for the US consulate in Lahore has complicated matters, our correspondent says.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2011\/feb\/20\/us-raymond-davis-lahore-cia?INTCMP=SRCH\">disclosed the link on Sunday<\/a>.
