Umuahia\u2014Doctors in Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba, under the aegis of Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, have appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on Governor Theodore Orji to clear all the outstanding salaries and allowances owed them, saying they were fed up with the state government\u2019s several unfulfilled promises.<\/p>\n

The President will hit Abia State today in continuation of his campaign for the 2011 general elections in April.<\/p>\n

Rising from an emergency meeting held at the premises of the Teaching Hospital, the doctors noted with regret incessant withdrawal of services by doctors and other healthcare workers in the hospital\u00a0 on account of poor remuneration and irregular payment of salaries.<\/p>\n

In a communiqu\u00e9 issued at the end the meeting, signed by Dr. E.C Iwuoha and Dr. Nnenna Nwachukwu, the Association\u2019s President and Secretary respectively, the doctors prayed Jonathan to come to their rescue.
The communique read:\u00a0 \u201cAbia State government has not been keeping to her several promises of payment of arrears of salaries and allowances and this has brought disaffection, disenchantment and loss of faith in the state government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe poor state of infrastructure and subsequent loss of relevant specialists has hindered the capacity for training of undergraduate and post graduate doctors as well as re-training of doctors in rare fields in the teaching hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Umuahia\u2014Abia State government has ordered all markets closed in Aba, the state\u2019s commercial city, for President Goodluck Jonathan\u2019s campaign today.<\/p>\n

Following the state government\u2019s directive, there was a general clean up of the city yesterday to prepare it for the campaign billed for Enyimba Stadium.<\/p>\n

Security has also been beefed up in and around the Enyimba stadium as old vehicles and shanties around the area had been cleared.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Governor Theodore Orji has called on the people to turn out in their numbers to welcome the President and his campaign team to the state.<\/p>\n

In a statement by his Adviser on electronic media, Ugochukwu Emezue, Governor Orji said,\u00a0 apart from the campaign activities that will take place at Enyimba stadium Aba, the president would commission the new ultra-modern Diagnostic Centres in Aba and Umuahia.<\/p>\n
