Check the latest oil prices here.<\/b><\/span><!-- \/PURGE: \/2011\/02\/23\/news\/international\/libya_oil_production\/libya_oil_production.gi.top.jpg --><span id=\"fb-recommend\"\/><br \/>\n<span>By <a href=\"mailto:steve.hargreaves@turner.com\">Steve Hargreaves<\/a>, senior writer<\/span><span>February 23, 2011: 12:38 PM ET<\/span><!--startclickprintexclude--><br clear=\"all\"\/><!--endclickprintexclude--><!-- CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p>NEW YORK (CNNMoney) &#8212; Italian oil giant Eni, the largest foreign oil company in Libya, said production in the country has been partially shut down due to ongoing violence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2011\/02\/23\/markets\/oil\/index.htm\">Oil prices surged<\/a> midday Wednesday after a report in the <i>Financial Times<\/i> said half of Libya&#8217;s production has been suspended. The report cited unnamed industry executives.<\/p>\n<p><!-- REAP --><!--startclickprintexclude--><!--endclickprintexclude--><!-- \/REAP --><\/p>\n<p>An Eni spokesman declined to specify how much of its production has been shut in, saying disclosing that information could jeopardize the remaining output.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Certain oil and gas activities in the country have been temporarily suspended in precautionary way,&#8221; said the statement, released Tuesday. &#8220;Security measures on those facilities have been undertaken.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Eni produces about 250,000 barrels a day from Libya, which has <a href=\"http:\/\/money.cnn.com\/2011\/02\/21\/markets\/libya_oil_unrest\/index.htm\">total oil output<\/a> of 1.6 million barrels per day.
