He’s not stranger to controversy with his caustic critiques on Strictly Come Dancing.<\/p>\n

But Craig Revel Horwood was forced to take back one of his rude comments on-air yesterday when he labelled travellers ‘pikeys’.<\/p>\n

The Australian judge, 46, was complaining he was sick of seeing travellers on television following the five-part Channel 4 series My Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.<\/p>\n

Revel Horwood made his controversial remarks when appeared on the panel of The Wright Stuff on Channel Five.<\/p>\n

He said: ‘Be a gypsy and stick to your codes and don’t involve us. And get off our TVs.<\/p>\n

‘All those pikeys though, darling. Do we really need them?’<\/p>\n

Host Matthew Wright quickly pointed out the word ‘pikey’ was an offensive term.<\/p>\n

He said: ‘That’s an offensive term towards gypsies.<\/p>\n

‘That’s like using the ‘n’ word towards black people and you will have to apologise for that.’<\/p>\n

Revel
\nHorwood then retracted his statement, saying: ‘I do apologise, and I
\nhad to apologise at Christmas because I said it to one of my friends and
\nhe walked out.<\/p>\n

‘I do apologise to the nation for the pikey remarks. I take it back.’ <\/p>\n

Despite his comments, he clearly caused offence with people taking to Twitter to complain.<\/p>\n

One Twitter user ‘bobshaw78’ wrote: ‘Craig Revel Horwood uses term pikey on Wright Stuff, xenophobic idiot who should maybe know better.’<\/p>\n

His use of the word ‘pikey’ comes as Revel Horwood hit out at Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner for being ‘too personal’ in his criticisms of the contestants.<\/p>\n

He said: ‘Jason needs to shut up and only judge the dancing and the ice.<\/p>\n

‘Leave the personal at home, because he\u2019s giving judges a bad name.’<\/p>\n

Gardiner has courted his own controversy during the current series of the show after arguing with head coach Karen Barber and telling Kerry Katona ‘it looked like you were having an internal examination’.<\/p>\n
