Na Bohagu Mahami Abudulai, Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, has commended the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga for successfully mediating in key conflicts in his kingdom.<\/p>\n
He mentioned especially the violent conflict between the people of Kambatiak and Gbankoni Traditional Areas which the church through collaborations with key opinion leaders from the communities intervened and succeeded in bringing relative peace to those areas.<\/p>\n
Following this achievement by the church, Na Bohagu, who also holds the title Nayire, invited the Church to his palace to ascertain the degree of successes chalked through their intervention to enable the traditional authorities to do the necessary arrangements to pacify the land for life to continue.<\/p>\n
Mr Joseph Ayambilla, Acting Diocesan Development Coordinator of the Church, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Bolgatanga. He said in view of the church\u2019s achievement in conflict resolution in the Mamprugu Traditional Area, the Nayire had developed trust for the Church.<\/p>\n
According to Mr Ayambilla, the Nayire indicated that peace at the Kambatiak and Gbankoni Traditional Areas meant peace for the whole of the Mamprugu Kingdom and indicated that the demarcation of the disputed land was clear and wondered why the people continued to argue over the ownership of the land.<\/p>\n
He said the Nayire attributed the success chalked by the church to its impartiality in resolving the conflict for both parties to thread the peace path adding; \u201cYou succeeded because you are Christians and treat everybody the same\u201d.<\/p>\n
He indicated that Nayire\u2019s meeting with the church on December 24, 2010 was also to discuss the Kambatiak and Gbankoni conflict and that members included the Diocesan Administrator, Very Rev. Msgr. Thomas Anamooh, Rusmond Anyinah, Peace Coordinator, Perpetual Koganah, from the Satellite Peace Centre and he (Ayambilla).<\/p>\n
Mr Ayambilla said the Nayire expressed his appreciation for the support and resources spent on addressing the problem and also to hear from the diocese about the progress made in the mediation processes. The Nayire further indicated that the Diocese would be invited to take part in subsequent deliberations at the palace to conclude the talks and to follow up with the pacification of the land in the area.<\/p>\n
The Very Reverend Monsignor Thomas Anamooh said he was humbled by the King\u2019s call to the palace and that the success chalked by the Diocese was made possible through the support of the Nayire, the two factions and the Parish team. <\/p>\n
He said during a dialogue session in Bolgatanga, the major stakeholders resolved to carry out a number of tasks contained in a resolution that was signed by the two chiefs from the Kambatiak and Gbankoni Traditional Areas and witnessed by other parties including the Nayire\u2019 s representative to the session.<\/p>\n
The Very Rev. Msgr. Anamooh said the Diocese did not have the power to resolve the conflict alone in the area but created an enabling environment and the opportunity for the parties to identify their own weaknesses and strengths where the church could assist to resolve their differences.<\/p>\n
The Administrator reiterated that the church\u2019s aim was to support all to achieve peace for the common good and praised the Nayire for accepting the church to participation in the deliberations.<\/p>\n
He called on the Nayire to appeal to the chiefs to advise the youths in the area against any violence while outstanding issues were addressed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
