Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the NPP, has reiterated his declaration that members of his party will not be intimidated by the NDC in the 2012 elections and that \u201call die be die.\u201d
\nAddressing a crowd at Asamankese to round up his campaign tour of the Eastern Region, Nana Akufo-Addo charged party faithful to be bold in resisting intimidation or any acts they believe will stop them from wresting power away from the NDC, declaring three times that after all, \u201call die be die.\u201d
\nNana Addo\u2019s earlier comments on Tuesday February 8, during an address to party supporters in the Region have been strongly condemned by the ruling NDC government and a cross section of the public.
\nThe NDC, at press conference on Thursday February 10, held at the party\u2019s headquarters in Accra and addressed by its General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, advised the NPP to take immediate and pragmatic steps to remove Nana Akufo-Addo as the party\u2019s flagbearer because his actions and words are \u201cinimical and dangerous to Ghana’s democracy\u201d.
\nThe NDC scribe described Nana Addo as a \u201csuicide bomber\u201d and admonished him to relocate to countries like Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq to pursue that ambition.
\n\u201cWhat is surprising to us is that the leader of the NPP who claims to believe in the rule of law and the need to strengthen state institutions to discharge their duties within the context of the law is now calling on his party supporters to take the law into their own hands to cause mayhem by confronting security agencies in the performance of their duties.
\n\u201cIf Nana thinks suicide bombing is the best way to achieve his political ambition then we suggest he considers relocating to countries like Afghanistan, Somalia and Iraq to pursue that ambition\u201d.
\nStaunch members of the NPP such as Ursula Owusu and Nana Akomea in separate interviews with Citi News have stated categorically that neither Nana Addo nor the NPP will apologize for the comments since there is nothing wrong with the statements.
\nKennedy Agyapong, another party member, also told this station the declaration, rather than derailing the NPP\u2019s chances, was revitalizing the youth of the party.
\nAlso speaking on Asempa FM, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, expressed regret that he had not earlier supported Nana Akufo-Addo in the party\u2019s flagbearership race in 2010, saying he did not know he was such a \u201cbrave leader.\u201d
\nAddressing NPP loyalists at Asamankese Thursday evening Nana Addo stated that he is not perturbed by calls for him to apologize for his comments, saying he finds nothing inimical or dangerous about his comments.
\nCiti FM\u2019s Eastern Regional Correspondent Appiah Kubi, reports that the NPP flagbearer reiterated his \u201call die be die\u201d comments repeating it on three consecutive times.
