Joe Osei Owusu, has lashed at the Daily Democrat Newspaper for splashing on its front pages the pictures of two ladies identified to be undercover reporters under the wings of ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The Daily Democrat newspaper published the pictures of two ladies who were busted at the restricted areas of the Tema Harbour secretly filming and recording security officials and CEPS officers.
The paper alleges that Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ secret investigation at the Tema port was going to be the basis of attack on the Atta Mills’ led NDC government’s genuine commitment to fighting corruption from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on e-TV’s Breakfast TV Newspaper Review, Hon. Osei Owusu questioned the newspaper’s motive for publishing the pictures of the ladies. He accused the newspaper of ignorantly exposing the two investigative reporters to danger.
“The publication of the ladies photographs will expose them to danger; there is a huge risk that they are carrying now that people can identify them. I cannot see the real value of publishing the photographs,” he said.
The Independent MP further stated that the Democrat newspaper’s effort at creating the impression that Anas wanted to use his investigation to play mischief was unfounded. To him, the issue of whether or not government collaborated or funded the investigative piece is needless.
“The way this paper has captured the story, it is making it as if Anas has used it for some mischievous purpose, and it is in contrast to what has been claimed by government that they collaborated – which is turning into whether they collaborated or funded. For me that is not important, what is important is that government saw some benefit in Anas work, so for a paper that profess to be a supporter of the government to turn round and pour ice, denigrate the work and expose the people involved to danger is strange, unless there are forces within the party, which operate from different angles,” he noted.
According to him, even though it is unsurprising that there is a high magnitude of corruption at the Tema port, nobody has released such graphic evidence like Anas’ exposé and that makes it very important for the country.
He emphasized that any effort to pour ice on and divert attention from the core issues of Anas’ video on “Enemies of The State”, will be unwarranted and unfair.

Member of Parliament for Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, Hon.
