New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman has denied suggestions that the party is considering reducing the filing fees for the NPP Parliamentary Primary.
\nThe Daily Guide in its Friday, February 4, 2011 edition featured a story titled, NPP To Cut Filing Fee, where it was reported that the NPP had reconsidered its decision to charge GH\u00a216,000 as filing fees for their Parliamentary Primaries.
\nSpeaking on Joy FM the NPP Chairman said that there has been a lot of misinformation about the party\u2019s decision to charge GH\u00a216,000 and is therefore engaged in a nationwide tour to educate its members on the reasons for that charge. \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of misinformation about the fee structure and why we want to charge the fees, so we are going round and explaining to our members what it is all about,\u201d he said.
\nCiting some reasons, he said there was the need to raise funds for its prospective candidates in order to ensure a good campaign and also to prevent candidates from siphoning allocated funds, which was the case when they received sponsorship from individuals.
\nHe said he had not heard the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, who was also quoted by the paper as saying the party would reduce the charge if the NPP faithful complained about it, make any such comments.
\nMr Obetsebi-Lamptey also played down comparisons between his party\u2019s filing fees and that of the New Democratic Congress\u2019 (NDC), which has been pegged at GH\u00a22,000, saying, \u201cthey know what they are getting from their incumbency\u2026We know that we are in opposition, [therefore] we are responsible for ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
