Stakeholders in the transport industry are considering the introduction of speed limiters on vehicles to control speeding and carnage on the roads.
\nMr Gus Kesseie, Chief Project Manager of Technol, an engineering company, addressing participants at a workshop on the installation of road speed limiters in Accra said with the current high rate of accidents on the road attributed mostly to speeding there was the need to address the causes.
\nThe workshop jointly organised by the managements of Technol and State Transport Corporation, was attended by 40 auto technicians, transport supervisors and engineers from garages in Greater Accra, Eastern, Western and Upper East Regions.
\nMr Kesseie said the workshop would equip the participants with the requisite knowledge on how to carefully and properly install road speed limiters of various types on vehicles with 3.5 tonnes capacity not to exceed a speed limit of 100 kilometres.He announced that in addition, they would train police personnel to effectively check drivers who tamper with the speed limiters.
\nMr Sabu George, Technical Director of AutoGrade International, an automobile company, said there were three types of speed limiters which include accelerator control, direct fuel control and electronic control speed limiters. He said the speed limiter would be installed in the fuel filter through the engine to control drivers from driving on speed that would exceed 100 kilometres.
\nMr George urged the Ministry of Transport to put in place mechanisms that would prevent drivers from tampering with the installation.
\nSome participants, who spoke to Ghana News Agency after the workshop, expressed appreciation to the organisers and expressed the hope that the new initiative would be functional.They said most of the accidents that occurred were due to the lack of proper maintenance of vehicles and urged transport owners and drivers to undertake periodic maintenance, while the Ministry organised eye testing for drivers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
