A loose reference by Nana Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to the Volta Hall, the all female hall at Ghana\u2019s premier University of Ghana, as a sex joint for sexually active male student on campus, has stirred disquiet among a section of the female population in the country.
\nObservers say they are not only horrified by the derogatory comments about the female hall by Akufo-Addo, but also by his sexist remarks, which deepen the stereotype of Ghanaian women as sex symbols.
\nIn a tribe to the late hon. Theresa Amerley Tagoe, the former NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South Constituency, Akufo-Addo referred to Volta Hall as \u201cthe cynosure of all healthy young males at Legon.\u201d Akufo-Addo continued in his tribute that \u201cit was during our time at Legon that, for the rest of her life, I came to call her \u201cBottoms\u201d as against the family familiar \u201cTT\u201d.
