The Special Aide to former President Rawlings, Mr. Kofi Adams, has confirmed that a consultancy firm has started clearing debris from the former president\u2019s burnt house for work to commence on the reconstruction of the building.
\nMr. Adams says, \u201cthe consultants took the site somewhere around 23rd of January and from the information I have gathered they have started pulling down the burnt structure to pave way for some kind of engineering or architectural work to enable reconstruction to commence\u201d.
\nHe made this confirmation on the Big Bite morning show with Emefa Apawu on XFM 95.1, a privately owned commercial radio station in Osu, Accra.
\nAccording to Mr. Adams, after the clearing of the debris, the contractor will move in to commence work on rebuilding which the government of Ghana is sponsoring.
\nA raging fire gutted the Ridge residence of the former President on Saint Valentine\u2019s Day last year February 14th amidst loud explosions in the early hours of that morning.
\nThe cause of the fire is still unknown, but the former first couple has been living apart since then as controversies raged on concerning alternative accommodation for them.
\nNana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has been \u2018perching\u2019 with her mom whilst her husband stays at a “village house” in Tefle near Sogakope.
\nMeanwhile, Mr Rawlings is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia together with his aides Kofi Adams and Kobbina Andoh for the African Union Summit.

\nThe Special Aide to former president Rawlings, Mr. Adams said the former president is in Ethiopia to take part in the summit as the Commission’s High Representative in Somalia.
\n\u201cYou all are aware that he\u2019s been appointed the AU high representative to Somalia to help bring about some state of orderliness in Somalia\u2026Since then this is the first time the African Union as a commission is meeting so he\u2019s been invited to take part in the deliberations\u2019.
\nMr. Adams added that the former president is also to meet with the League of Arab States, European Union, the American Ambassador to AU and some Heads of States.
