The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Mr. Enoch Teye Mensah yesterday stormed his constituency in vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare and allegedly supervised the presentation of GH\u00a230 each to some members of his constituency.
\nIt is however unclear what the money was intended for as it left some tongues wagging as to whether the money being shared was from the Livelihood Empowerment Programme (LEAP) which was initiated by the erstwhile New Patriotic Party administration to cater for the poor and aged in society.
\nSome residents were also surprised as both the young, energetic and the old in the constituency all benefited from the GH\u00a230 booty.
\nInvestigations conducted by the Daily Searchlight newspaper revealed that some names of disabled people in the Ningo-Prampram constituency were written down ostensibly to benefit from the booty.
\nSome people belonging to the ruling National Democratic Congress also managed to get their names written even though they were not disabled persons.
\nInterestingly, one beneficiary who spoke on condition of anonymity did not know the reason why he was receiving the GH\u00a230. According to him, some people visited their homes sometime ago and asked them to write down their names for some money. \u201cI was even at home watching television when I was called by a neighbor that the MP and some people are sharing some money so I should come for mine,\u201d he said.
\nThe booty was said to have been shared from New Ningo to Afienya and finally at Old Ningo.
\nA Ghana Post vehicle with registration number GP 8379X was also used in the exercise. When contacted on phone yesterday, E.T Mensah who ran out of patience said a directive was issued for some regions to be given the booty. He rhetorically asked whether it was a crime for him to give some of the booty to his constituents and angrily dropped the line. This was after he told The Searchlight newspaper to cross-check from his source since the monies being shared was not for the LEAP.
\nSchool children who had closed from school did not live any stone unturned as they also rushed to the venue for their booty. Pandemonium however broke up at the church where the booty was being shared at Old Ningo when those who couldn\u2019t get their share protested. This was when the officials from the Employment and Social Welfare ministry said they had closed for the day.
