National Youth Organiser of the Convention People\u2019s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, has lashed out at former President Jerry John Rawlings for his statement that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party is the conscience of the people.
\nHe believes the former President\u2019s comment clearly shows he is suffering from selective amnesia.
\nFormer President Rawlings, speaking at a fundraising ceremony to mark the first anniversary celebrations of the Concerned Muslim Youth of Ghana at the Kanda National Mosque Project premises on Saturday, January 15, said it is not possible for anybody to destroy the NDC because the party represents the conscience of the people. He said there was a time when he used to pass on his criticisms through appropriate channels on the quiet, \u201cbut the way some of these mistakes were continued, it was as if some of them were quite deliberate or meant to destroy the NDC. But it is not possible to destroy the NDC.\u201d
\nEx-President Rawlings noted that even though the NPP invested huge amounts of money in the last election the NDC beat them with virtually nothing because \u201cof our belief in noble and human centered values. Let us not make the mistake of forgetting those values. If we do so we will be doing so at great cost.\u201d
\nHe added that the only way the NDC can correct some of the misdeeds of the NPP regime is to \u201crehabilitate our own selves. We must clean up our own act within the NDC party. Then and only then will we have the strength and moral fiber to correct the misdeeds that Kufuor left behind.\u201d
\nSpeaking on Peace FM\u2019s Kokrokoo Morning show, the CPP National Youth Organiser questioned the basis for Mr Rawlings\u2019 declaration and went further to ask if it was possible for a party that over threw a constitutionally installed government through coup d\u2019\u00e9tat, could be said to be the conscience of the people.
\n\u201cHow can a political party that collapsed parliament and bastardized the judiciary system in Ghana also claim to be the conscience of the people?\u201d He inquired.
\nKabila, as the outspoken Nkrumaist is popularly called, noted that the ruling government has developed the penchant of blaming virtually every body for their inability to fulfill their 2008 campaign and platform promises.
\n\u201cI wonder if blaming people for their inability to fix what they have been tasked and voted into office to do constitutes being part of the conscience of people,\u201d he added.
\nCiting the dissimilar information provided to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in 2009, he accused the NDC government of making it extremely difficult to differentiate between when they being honest to Ghanaians and when they are churning out propaganda.
