{"id":274242,"date":"2011-01-17T06:45:31","date_gmt":"2011-01-17T06:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/?p=48000"},"modified":"2011-01-17T06:45:31","modified_gmt":"2011-01-17T06:45:31","slug":"family-of-burnt-old-lady-seeks-speedy-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/01\/17\/family-of-burnt-old-lady-seeks-speedy-justice\/","title":{"rendered":"Family Of \u2018Burnt\u2019 Old Lady Seeks Speedy Justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><figure id=\"attachment_48001\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-48001\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-48001\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/01\/17\/family-of-%e2%80%98burnt%e2%80%99-old-lady-seeks-speedy-justice\/madam-ama-hemmah\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-48001\" title=\"Madam Ama Hemmah\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Madam-Ama-Hemmah.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"268\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-48001\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Madam Ama Hemmah after her ordeal<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nMadam Ama Hemmah the 72-year-old  woman who died a day after suffering severe burns when persons now being  held as suspects falsely accused her of witchcraft and set her ablaze  at Community One, Tema in November last year, has been buried at her  hometown, Ajumako Assasan in the Central Region.<br \/>\nHer burial followed a memorial service at the Ajumako Christ the King Anglican Church.<br \/>\nWailing  mourners of the mother of three \u2013 family, friends and sympathizers \u2013  were bitter at the calamity and want state prosecutors to speed the  prosecution of suspects arrested after the heinous crime.<br \/>\nJoy  News\u2019 Richard Kojo Nyarko reports that the mourners who shed  uncontrollable tears, rained curses on the perpetrators of the dastardly  act.<br \/>\nMr. Stephen Kwame Ofosu Yeboah, 48, a son of the deceased,  described the death as a \u201cshock to the whole family\u201d and pointed out  that since the issue is a crime, the family can only look to the state  for justice. He emphasized however; \u201c\u2026but we want to see the prosecution  of those accused people.\u201d<br \/>\nThe aged woman was said to have set  off from her village to Nungua, a suburb of Accra in search of her son,  Ofosu Yeboah, however she fell asleep in the bus and ended up in Tema as  the bus came to the end of its journey.<br \/>\nStranded and without  money, the old lady was reported to have unsuccessfully sought alms to  enable her return to the village, however some residents of Site 7  pounced on her and accused her of being a witch, detained her and tried  to force a confession from her.<br \/>\nThey ended up dousing her in what  is suspected to be kerosene and set her ablaze. She died at the Tema  General Hospital a day after the ordeal.<br \/>\nThe police have since  arrested and put before court six suspects.
